Mike began working with animals in 1975 while employed by Central Westchester Humane Society in Down State New York. He assisted with caring for up to 300 dogs and 150 cats while awaiting the right family to come along and take home their new best friend. While working there, he attended trade school and became a union electrician upon graduation in Westchester County.
In 1998, he went on a blind date with a woman from South Glens Falls who he'd marry only a year later. He transferred work at that time and moved to Queensbury. His business and electrical skills led to him becoming project manager for electrical projects spanning Albany, Plattsburgh, Luzerne, Syracuse, and Cleveland, Ohio. In 2010 he was sent to Afghanistan to perform electrical inspections on US military bases.
Mike never forgot those years working for the Central Westchester Humane Society, and while in Afghanistan he started planning to create a business of his own where he could put his love of caring for animals to good use. That's where the idea for GFK9 was born. When he returned in 2013 he began scouting locations and has fallen in love with our current location in Glens Falls. Mike's love for animals is second to none, and he strives to make GFK9 a place where you and your dog will always look forward to your next visit!
